MysteryLog

A database app for escape rooms and mystery events, letting players log their experiences and organisers manage their productions in one place.

MysteryLog is a database app that connects players and organisers across the Japanese escape-room and live mystery scene. It is Yokko Lab's flagship product and the app that keeps shaping how I approach everything else.

Why I built it

Hundreds of escape-room productions open across Japan each year, but there had been no single place to log what you have played and find what to play next. Hardcore players were maintaining their own spreadsheets — a clear sign the category needed a real tool.

What I cared about in the design

  • A single app for both players and organisers, not two parallel products
  • Lower the barrier to logging: minimum taps, photo-driven entries
  • Organisers own the canonical production data, players only write their impressions — clean separation of concerns

Where it is now

  • Thousands of productions registered across the catalog
  • A companion app, "MysteryLog Teams," for organisers managing live events
  • Real-time tracking so organisers can see player progress during a session

What is next

The category is gently expanding from pure mystery games into immersive entertainment — board-game cafés, immersive theatre, and other adjacent live experiences. I am deciding how broadly to grow the catalog without diluting the core.
