Hottoly

An app for gently keeping an eye on the people who matter, without crowding them — for the relationship that lives between a phone call and silence.

  • mobile
  • family
  • lifestyle

A small app for the "are they okay?" feeling, designed so the other person never feels surveilled. Less anxious than a check-in app, much further away than an SNS — the goal was the in-between distance.

What sparked it

Parents you visit a few times a year, a friend in another city, someone you used to talk with weekly. You want to know they are fine without calling. That missing middle distance seemed like something an app could carry.

What I tuned

  • Notifications only fire when a familiar rhythm shifts
  • Words stay sparse — lightweight signals do the heavy lifting
  • The product sits intentionally between "too close" and "too distant"

What I am seeing

A surprise after launch — the strongest use isn't family. It is friends keeping a loose eye on each other.
